ADAPT – A Virtual Support Program for Island Workers and Their Employers

Unsupported Learning Disabilities Hold Everyone Back.
Accommodating Learning Disabilities Helps Everyone Reach New Heights.

ADAPT is a partnership between Workplace Learning PEI (WLPEI) and the Government of New Brunswick’s Virtual Learning Strategy (VLS) adult-learner support model.

The ADAPT (Accommodating learning Disabilities to Accelerate Performance and Thrive) Program provides Island employers and workers with FREE access to a suite of virtual services to screen for, diagnose, and support learning disabilities in the workplace.

ADAPT (or Workplace Learning Prince Edward Island Learning Disability Online Risk Indicator project) is a partnership between Workplace Learning PEI (WLPEI) and the Government of New Brunswick’s (GNB) Virtual Learning Strategy (VLS) adult-learner support model, funded in part by the Government of Canada (Employment and Social Development Canada).

The VLS model utilizes the Government of New Brunswick’s proprietary tools for screening for learning disabilities (called the Learning Disability Online Risk Indicator [LDORI]) and their assessment for foundational skills gaps (called the Essential Skills for Success Assessment [ESSA]) to identify client needs and provides individualized supports based on those needs.

Building on WLPEI’s extensive employer experience and network, ADAPT is piloting VLS’s new service of applying the VLS support model, and their tools, to the workplace environment in order to secure necessary workplace accommodations for workers whose learning disabilities affect their workplace functioning.

Importantly, this includes access through the VLS networks to a licensed/registered psychologist that will complete a timely assessment, if required.

Once a diagnosis is made, the project team will offer recommendations on ways to support the individual’s learning disabilities. These accommodations will help them reach their full potential at their workplace and in life.

It’s a win-win for Island employers and workers!
